I Got Box Braids

First off, please excuse  the look on my face, I was very tired from working early in the morning then sitting to get my hair done. I got them done last night by the wife of a friend from work. I will admit that I was nervous about someone new touching my hair but she was so gentle and cared about the health of my hair.  I plan on keeping them in for about 2 1/2 months or 3 at the latest since I actually paid to get them done instead of doing them myself. The whole process went great, it didn't seem as long as it actually took ( about 5 hours), she didn't braid too tight and I didn't have a headache afterwards. So far I've only worn it in a ponytail. The only regret I have is that I didn't get the end curled instead of burned. I will defiantly get my hair braided by her again

Wash Day May 4th

My wash day just consisted of my co-washing my hair with Suave Strawberry conditioner. Then letting it air dry and applying coconut oil to my hair. I'm currently 14 weeks post relaxer. Here are a couple of texture shots to show my transitioning progress.

Overnight Deep Condition

Lately I've just been co-washing my hair braiding it or putting it into a bun. With getting into my routine of going to work and doing online school I've completely slacked on deep conditioning my hair. Since I have  a day off I decided to finally treat my hair. I separated my hair into 4 sections and took my time detangling. I then mixed  a deep condition of ORS replenishing conditioner, Suave strawberry conditioner, HE LTR conditioner, castor oil, peppermint oil, grapeseed oil, coconut oil, apricot oil and sweet almond oil. I applied it to my hair then braided each section and put on a plastic cap, satin scarf and bonnet. When I wake up I may also apply heat for about 20 minutes before rinsing and washing with the simply u sulfate free shampoo then follow with a conditioner rinse of HE LTR. Slacking with deep conditioning my hair has also made me slack in buying conditioners and deep conditioning caps. So hopefully this will get me back into my hair routine.

Update 4/16/12

I'm sorry for the huge gaps in my blogging, I've been busy with work and online school. Here are a few quick updates:

- I'm currently 12 weeks post and its been a very easy. I've been mainly doing braids out but did a roller set last and put it into a high pony.
-I'm still very excited about transitioning and can't wait to see more growth.
-I will most likely be putting my hair into braid outs, bantu knots and twist bantu knots until I get the time to put in senegalese twists or single braids.
-Also more regular blog posting will be coming soon

Best Wash Day!

Today had to be one of my best wash days ever. I started out by doing a "two comb" detangle method which was using a wide toothed comb then a fine toothed comb to make sure I got out all of the shedded hair since I only comb on wash days. I then put my hair into 3 sections and twisted them and clipped them up. While in the shower I worked on one section at a time first clarifying with Suave daily clarifying shampoo then following with Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship shampoo, rinsing, re-twisting and putting the section back up. I then towel dried my hair and applied a deep condition mix of Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship conditioner, Suave Strawberry conditioner, ORS Replenishing conditioner, olive oil, coconut oil, grapeseed oil, apricot oil, and sweet almond oil. I was under my dryer for about 30 minutes then rinsed. I left the towel on my head for about 45 minutes to an hour then applied Aussie Hair Insurance leave-in, Loreal Nature's Therapy heat protection serum and sweet almond oil. I let my hair air dry to about 80% the blow dried on low to med heat then flat ironed my hair. Today was the first time I've put heat on my hair in about 2 months. My hair is so soft and my ends look amazing. They look like they did when I got them trimmed in January. I will post pictures as soon as possible.

Transitioning Update

Hi ladies, I wanted to do a quick update to let everyone know that I am 9 weeks into my transition and so far so good. I expected this part to be easy since I've stretched to 5+ months before. I feel that by time I hit 7 months I might have an issue but we'll see. Mostly I've been co-washing my hair and letting it air dry then putting it in a bun. When I get the chance, since I've been busy getting use to working, I will do a long deep condition and start back doing roller sets.
